SUMMARY:Discovery Speaker Series: Water Quality Testing
DESCRIPTION:Tune into the Estuarium’s Facebook Live on March 3rd at 6:30 PM for a look into the health of our watersheds with middle school students from Marshall Middle School. These students have been conducting water quality testing in the Deschutes River to measure the health of our ecosystem and to contribute to the 30 years of data that Thurston Conservation District’s South Sound Green program has been recording with local schools. This class has prepared a presentation for us sharing the water quality data they collected at Tumwater Falls Park this past year. They will walk us through the ideal conditions for salmon populations and what their collections tell us about the health of the river. Additionally, we will hear about South Sound Green’s larger water quality program and get a brief introduction to the Student GREEN Congress. Congress is a conference where students share the data they have been collecting, give presentations on their testing sites, and brainstorm recommendations to improve the condition of our waterways. This talk will give everyone a deeper understanding of the interconnected nature of our watersheds and a look into the state of our estuaries. This Discovery Speaker Series event is the last of our 2021-2022 season and comes just before Student GREEN Congress later this month which is hosted by South Sound GREEN, the Nisqually River Education Project and the Chehalis Basin Education Consortium. Student GREEN Congress will connect hundreds of local students through their scientific research and this presentation is our sneak preview into that exchange of information. We hope you will join us for this exciting talk and maybe these middle schoolers will teach you something new!\n \n VIEW FACEBOOK LIVE PAGE\n \n \n DOWNLOAD COLORING PAGE\n \n
