Discovery Speaker Series: Quiet Sound with Sara Adams!

Join Puget Sound Estuarium at the Olympia Timberland Library for our Discovery Speaker Series. Every 1st Thursday of the month we invite you to learn and stay informed about current environmental research or sustainability projects. You’ll hear from Scientists, Educators, Artists, and Earth Advocates about their current work, research, or organization. Plus get your questions answered live after the talk!

November’s presentation is Quiet Sound with Sara Adams!

About the presentation:
Sara Adams is a Program Manager at Quiet Sound, a program of Washington Maritime Blue. Quiet Sound aims to understand and mitigate the acoustic and physical impacts of large commercial vessels on the endangered Southern Resident killer whales. As part of this work, Sara leads Quiet Sound’s seasonal voluntary slowdown in Admiralty Inlet and north Puget Sound. While the slowdown is in effect, commercial mariners are asked to reduce their speeds when transiting through the slowdown zone. The 2024-25 slowdown season began on October 6, 2024 and will continue through January 12, 2025. Sara will speak to Quiet Sound’s collaborative approach to reducing underwater noise through voluntary measures.

About the speaker:
Sara is currently pursuing her Master’s from the University of Washington’s School of Marine and Environmental Affairs. Sara received her B.A in Biology and Clinical Nutrition from California Polytechnic State University. Sara is certified in Corporate Social Responsibility from the University of Colorado Boulder and Marine Diesel Engines from the Seattle Maritime Academy
