The Estuarium will continue to review our COVID-19 policy and make changes to protect the health of our community.
Indoor Education:
To protect staff, volunteers and our community participants, Puget Sound Estuarium has modified its COVID-19 policy. Effective 1/11/2022, all staff, contract educators and volunteers must be fully vaccinated as defined by the Washington Department of Health, or have a negative COVID test within 24 hours of an Estuarium offered, indoor activity, or program. For indoor activities, staff and volunteers are highly recommended to wear a mask. Masking for indoor events and programs was changed from mandatory to highly recommended in November of 2022.
If you would like to visit the Estuarium and someone in your family is immunocompromised or high risk for COVID-19, further accommodations may be available. Please contact our Lead Interpreters, Sarah and Clarissa, to inquire about more options for high risk and immunocompromised households.
- All visitors, volunteers and staff are highly recommended to wear a mask when inside the Estuarium. Masking for indoor events and programs was changed from mandatory to highly recommended in November of 2022.
- Please apply hand sanitizer at the interpreter’s desk
- All staff and guests must social distance inside the Estuarium
Outdoor Education:
The number of participants allowed at Estuarium outdoor education programs may change again with any future shifting of Washington State COVID-19 guidelines.
- All volunteers and staff are recommended to mask when participating in Estuarium outdoor education trips and events. Masking for outdoor events and programs was changed from mandatory to recommended in August of 2022
- Please apply hand sanitizer before, during and after outdoor education programs and events. When participating in an outdoor program in which you will be handling estuarine and marine animals, such as Meet the Beach, apply hand sanitizer only after the program is over. The alcohol in hand sanitizer is astringent and damaging, especially to estuarine invertebrates and should not be applied while handling marine and estuarine animals
- All staff, volunteers and participants must social distance during outdoor education programs and events whenever possible
- All participants, volunteers and staff must make use of handwashing stations and restrooms at outdoor education sites, washing their hands thoroughly and frequently before, during and after outdoor education programs and events to help prevent the spread of COVID-19
- PPE supplies such as: sanitizing spray, wipes, hand sanitizer, disposable masks, will be provided by the Estuarium for any, and all outdoor education programs and events
