Discovery Speaker Series: Noxious Weeds Affecting Our Estuary with Heidi Steinbach

Tune into the Estuarium’s Facebook Live or join us through Zoom on March 2nd at 6:30 PM just in time for Spring as we learn about noxious weeds from Heidi Steinbach. Heidi is a Noxious Weed Specialist at the Thurston County Public Works, Noxious Weeds and Lakes Management Division. She’s been a Noxious Weed Specialist with Thurston County for over 2 years and before that a Noxious Weed Control Assistant with Mason County Noxious Weed Control.

Noxious weeds are non-native, invasive plants that threaten public health, the environment, wildlife habitat, native plants, agriculture and recreational areas. For this talk she will be covering identification of noxious weeds found in wetlands and shorelines as they affect our estuaries. Heidi will also discuss how we can make a difference with some general control strategies.

If you are interested in helping restore our shorelines by removing noxious weeds so native plants can flourish this is your chance to learn and ask questions! This will be our last Discovery Speaker Series of the season, but they will start back up in October 2023 on the 1st Thursday of the month at 6:30pm.

Young ones are invited to join in the virtual talk by following along with coloring pages related to the Discovery Speaker Series topics that will be available for download prior to the event. Coloring pages can also be picked up at the Estuarium during our weekend open hours.
