Volunteers are at the heart of our organization. They help the Estuarium support programs to educate our community about the Puget Sound, its estuaries, and marine environment. Joining an Estuarium Team is a great way to get involved in our programs. Teams meet monthly, and members are asked to dedicate at least four hours per month to their committee goals. Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator if you are interested in joining any of these groups.
Events & Outreach Team
The Events and Outreach Team prepares for outreach events as well as develops, plans, and hosts fun and informative Estuarium events that raise awareness of the importance and wonder of Puget Sound and that raise funds to support the Estuarium’s educational programs and services. Some examples of the events planned by the Events Team are Jellyfish Jam, the SSEA the Sound Cruise and our Annual Meeting. The Events and Outreach Team meets the third Wednesday of every month from 5:00 to 6:00 PM. Board member Diana Larsen-Mills is the Events Team Lead.
Development Team
The Development Team solicits funds to expand the Estuarium’s ability to protect Puget Sound and to enrich the lives of our neighbors. The Development and Fundraising Team writes grants and appeals for individual donations and corporate sponsorships for program and project funding. The Development Team meets the third Thursday of every month from 6:30 to 7:30 PM. Executive Director Paris McClusky is the Development and Fundraising Team Lead.
Education Team
The Education Team designs curriculum modules, sets up field trips, coordinates classroom curriculum kits, and evaluates program success. Programs for K-12 educational field trips include: On the Water, Estuary Life and Landforms at the Estuarium, and Meet the Beach. The Education Team meets the fourth Thursday of every month from 6:30 to 7:30 PM. Education Coordinator Anthony Terzoli is the Education Team Lead.
Exhibits Team
The Exhibits Team provides scientific, technical, education and design feedback on rotating and permanent exhibits in the Estuarium and participates in community outreach events. The Exhibits & Outreach Team meets on the first and third Tuesday of every month from 6:00 – 7:00 PM. Nora Prindle is the Exhibits Team lead.
Equity Team
The Equity Team develops programs and curriculum to ensure our educational resources reach as many people as possible despite economic, language, or social barriers. The Equity Team meets the third Wednesday of every month from 6:30 to 7:30 PM. Executive Director Paris McClusky is the Equity Team Lead.
